Got Inspire in January 2019
I live in Sunset, Louisiana and was diagnosed with severe OSA and idiopathic hypersomnolence in 1999/2000. I was implanted with Inspire therapy in January of 2019.
While my journey is different than others, for example, there are many surgeries to correct my OSA, and just as many commonalities with all OSA sufferers. Inspire has given me so much freedom. I was able to decannulate the tracheostomy I had for OSA and was freed all of the equipment I had to carry, making travel infinitely easier. Increased quality of sleep led to increased quality of life and I was able to recommence driving for the first time in ten years. Being treated and thinking a little more clearly has improved my relationships which has increased my ability to enjoy life.
Interests: Cooking, traveling, reading, spending time with family and friends.
Why I chose Inspire therapy to treat my sleep apnea: Inspire was really the only thing I had not tried for OSA; I was struggling with other failed and much less desirable therapies. I found the marriage of technology, medicine and what I consider a relatively unobtrusive surgical procedure so exciting and was definitely not disappointed.
In a few short words, I would describe Inspire therapy as: Life-changing and empowering
Why am I a patient ambassador? Knowing others have struggled as much as I, it almost becomes a responsibility to share my hope, knowledge, and experience with others.
