Alabama Man Turns to Best Friend for Help with Sleep Apnea Troubles

Tim McNair dealt with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for most of his whole life, and it affected everyone around him.

McNair’s wife and kids woke up at night because his snoring was so loud, and he stopped breathing 44 times per hour. He went through each day lacking energy and not feeling like himself.

Nothing worked for McNair, including a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine which he found uncomfortable. He believed his sleep apnea was something he would just have to deal with.

But then one of McNair’s best friends, Dr. Jimmy Lee Masdon, changed everything by mentioning another option: Inspire® therapy.

Today, McNair only has four or fewer sleep apnea events per hour. Dr. Masdon is an Otolaryngologist who spent years trying to help McNair find a treatment option to help him get better sleep.

McNair tried matchsticks on the roof of his mouth and ablations of his tongue and nostrils, but neither worked. He was given a CPAP machine, as well, but he would rip the mask off every night.

But then came Inspire therapy. McNair researched and discussed further with his friend, Dr. Masdon, and he decided to have the Inspire implant procedure after he qualified. Dr. Masdon was also an Inspire-trained doctor, so he performed the surgery.

And the rest is history.

McNair’s blood pressure is down, and his energy is up too. He’s not snoring anymore, and he said he feels like a new person, enjoying the ability to get restful sleep each night.

And McNair’s success had another effect. It was one of the patient stories that motivated Dr. Masdon to get Inspire himself after he was diagnosed with OSA and qualified.

Now these best friends share another common thread – the Inspire implant.
